About Circuit of the Americas

The Circuit of the Americas is the first purpose-built Formula One facility in the United States, designed for any and all classes of racing, and was officially opened on October 21st, 2012. Its trademark component is the 5.5 kilometre (3.4-mile) Grand Prix circuit which was designed by Hermann Tilke in collaboration with American architectural firm, HKS.

Construction of the 20-turn, anti-clockwise track began in January 2011 and it draws its inspiration from the best tracks in the world, as well as taking advantage of the site’s natural topography to include dramatic elevation changes of up to 40 metres. The steep, uphill run into hairpin Turn One instantly become the track’s signature corner, and the grandstands, semi-permanent stands, and natural seating allows for up to 120,000 spectators to attend the Grand Prix. However, the F1 circuit is only one part of the multi-functional 900-acre site.
