World Famous Race Car Drivers Over The Years
Motor racing has been a part of the modern world for the better part of the last one hundred years, and while the cars themselves have changed in just about every way imaginable, the spirit of the races and those that take part in them has not changed in the least. Today, we have massive racing championships all over the world, and each has grown and evolved over the years, providing us with thrilling action, plenty of memorable moments, and some of the best drivers the world has ever seen.
These legends have changed the face of the sport as we know it, pushing themselves and their cars to the limit to snag not just one trophy, but sometimes even dozens. These are the racers that all the others look up to, and the racers that have become not just popular in their own world, but in the world at large.
For those that are interested in motor racing, or who enjoy horse racing betting sites but want to find something new, these are the top five best drivers ever.
- Nigel Mansell
Hailing from England, Mansell is well known for winning the CART Indy Car World Series in 1993, as well as the Formula One World Championship just a year earlier. Before he moved over the CART racing, Mansell was the undisputed F1 reigning champion, and after winning at the CART, become the first person to hold championship titles for both events.
- Ayrton Senna
Considered one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time, Senna won the World Championship three times before his death on the track in 1994. His domination on the track was one of the many reasons he was so successful in his career, and many racing enthusiasts around the world consider Senna to be the best driver of the modern era, and would have gone on to many more wins if his life hadn’t been cut short.
- Dale Earnhardt
Gaining prominence during the 1970s, Dale Earnhardt, also known as The Intimidator, was a professional like no other. His career started out with NASCAR, specifically at the World 600. He would go on to win 76 Winston Cups, including a cup for the Daytona 500 in 1998. The style of his driving was aggressive, which is how he earned his name, and many believe that he drove a bit too dangerously on the track. Sadly, he died in 2001 during the Daytona 500, making it one of the racing world’s most tragic events.
- Michael Schumacher
There are very few people in the world that have not heard of this racing legend. While he may not have the most wins of all time under his belt, he still boasts one of the most impressive racing records in recent history, and possibly the most successful driver in terms of sheer popularity. Schumacher has a number of Formula One records, and made history in 2002 when he became the only driver to have been in the top three in every race of a season.
- Mario Andretti
A god in the racing world, Mario Andretti brought unmatched skill to the sport. Regarded as the very best driver the world has ever seen, Andretti is remembered for a number of achievements, including winning races in Formula One, Indy Car, NASCAR, and World Sportscar Championship. To this day, Andretti has yet to be unseated as the best of the best, and will continue to be a legend among racers and enthusiasts alike.
